Soil and the Oceans - Are They Bailing Us Out?
Only about half of that carbon stays in the atmosphere and contributes to global climate change challenge. The other half is taken up by natural equa systems, both in the ocean and on land through processes that we call carbon sequestration. There's a little bit more of that extra carbon that's taken oup by land than is in the ocean right now. Soil is degraded, its ability to support plant productivity is compromised. And if the oceans experience so much acidification, for example, again, the health of that ocean system is also getting compromised.
