The Importance of Rejoicing
St. Peter is writing to exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Capidocia, Asia and Bithynia who have experienced persecution. In chapter 1 verse 3 he says: We have been born anew to a living hope to the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This is what the Lord God has done for you because then he goes on to say in verse 6, in this you rejoice. Though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, they redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus
