Why Governments Are Tuned to Exit
The more that i pull back from the public services, and start turning to th commercially provided services, the less incentive i have to engage with government. So it reduces my identity as consumer, starts changing my behavior as a citizen, my civic behavior. If i withdraw from civic life, governments not going to hear from me any more. And therefore, theyre incentives, government incentives, to do better decline. You know, one of the key ideas underlying our entire argument in this book comes from a guy named albert hirshman,. who wrote a famous book called exit, voice and loyalty.
