Is There a Political Motive for Lockdowns?
I wonder whether there was some envy of China and a sense also of this rising power and the degree of control that it can exert. That led Western policymakers to think actually maybe we can do something similar. We talk about that in the, towards the final part of the book in fact how yes, there have been a lot of admiration growing of China. So there was an integration at various levels of elites with Chinese society which certainly has an important part to play. The other thing that we do talk about in the book is propaganda and we know that there was propaganda around the severity of the virus in particular.
