Internal Mediation Is a Mediation That Does Not Breed Mimetic Rivalry
Don Quixote is the external mediator of Sancho. External mediation does not breed mimetic rivalry, because the model is too far from you. Internal mediation occurs when the mediator of desire is physically or socially close by and it leads to rivalry. Gerard finds numerous examples in the plays of Shakespeare.
