Genifer dowdner is a professor of medicine at Berkeley University. She discovered that bacteria's immune system could be harnessed to create new technology. Her work was initially focused on understanding the function of a protein called crisper cast nine. But she says her research eventually led to breakthroughs in cancer treatment and drug development.
