Is London a Good Choice?
I wanted somewhere, I decided that I didn't want to do a national study because I needed somewhere that I could get the really detailed source work in a kind of micro history way. And even for London, that's a big task. But I thought but London was also a good choice in terms of its variety as well. So obviously an enormous socio-economic variety, literally sometimes in the same kind of very small district you get extremes of wealth. There's variety in terms of ethnic background, so pockets of London, or large areas of London, and things like mobility rates differ in different parts of London.
