Is There a Background Check for Every Gun?

There's a lot of confusion about how the legal process to acquire a gun works, right? Because i think i saw a lot of posturing on social media about how could an 18 year old go in and buy an eight or 15 without bckground check. So w what would that do? And what does that sort of say about all these politicians view this issue?
