The Intersection of Linguistics and Computer Science
Linguistics is a very diverse field. There are social linguists who look how different communities speak and use language in quite different ways. For me, what I do is deal with how we can get computers to understand, generate, learn languages. That's also what various psychologists would study from a more sort of human-centered cognitive perspective. So just as for your own work, if you're working in bioinformatics, it's useful to know something about biology, as well as something about computation.
