The Zhao Jian-Min Spy Case
In retrospect, many of these third front projects may have been wasteful at a time when the People's Republic of China wasn't living so large like it is today. Since we're on the subject of the Cultural Revolution, let me mention a couple of incidents that happened down in Yunnan. The Zhao Jian-min spy case was used as a pretext to go after the masses there in a mass way. There was actually another rather high profile incident from the final year of the CulturalRevolution and this was called the Shahedian Incident of July, August 1975. In all, over a million Yunnanese got put through the ringer as a result of this campaign.
