i was very lucky that my college set up a chinese programme right as my own interests in china came out of nowhere. I had first started out trying to take spanish, but it was too hard, so i dropped it. When i went to graduate school m at harvard and started taking japanese, half the class was filled with koreans who had a huge advantage. And ye iv barely made it out of that class alive.
