The Battle of Uajima
The Marines were assigned to scout the Eastern beach approaches because those were closest to Moda Yama airfield number one. The problem was that their fire support posts these gunboats they came in like a invasion wave instead of staggered and their silhouettes were landing craft silhouettes. Meanwhile the swimmers were in the water doing their job drawing a lot of this fire. They measured the underwater incline decided it wasn't prohibitively steep and that the Marines could land there. It's one of the famous gunboat battles of World War II.
