All nodes are interconnected peers at all times. This incentivizes for speed as a result of competition for the block reward, and then accuracy when all the nodes check it. It ensures that the transaction history is kept free of mistakes. There's no one central source of failure. And every node has an up to date record at all times so in order for somebody to tamper with this record they would have to convince 51 % of that network that they were wrong. But you would have to essentially innovate to ten x what's out there in terms of computing power which is crazy. Nothing even comes close to the computing power of what exists on that network already.
