The Rise of Leisure in Britain in the 1920s

Agatha Christie was captivated by the sport of surfing in South Africa. Back in Britain crowds of day trippers were heading to the seaside too. The opening up of beaches like Eastbourne on a Sunday, importantly and crucially for bathing for the first time could be woven into tale about decline of religious belief but it also says something important about leisure.
