The Hang Up With the Catholic Church
I would say biblical illiteracy is a problem for Christians in general, not just Catholics. You can find people who say they're Christian by which they usually mean Protestant or say that they're Catholic and they barely know anything about the Bible. I'd also say that most Catholics understand salvation. They just may not be used to how Protestants describe it. This certainly is not the way the ancient church portrayed it.
