Are the Militias Reliable?
We think of militias as these stalwart defenses against the British, but they were also unreliable. George Washington was beside himself about how unreliable the militias were. Patrick Henry said those folks in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, they hate slavery. So how can we expect them to protect us when our slaves come after us? And so they threatened to basically scuttle the Constitution.
