The Tension Between Shan Narratives of Ethnicity and Political Imaginings of Nationhood

Shan politicians were never able to achieve nation state status in terms of the hegemone, the tiland or manmar. They don't see it as an ethnically exclusive kind of nation state. Being able to sing a burmese rock song does not make a shan person not love their own people as shan. And another interesting aspect about that is that ti ethno nationalism is at odds with that stance. In some ways they expect if they are fellow shan, If they are fellow ti, they should love their nation and not enjoy watching classic movies on tub from burma.
