Sergo Mika-yan had no plans on leaving Cuba at this stage. He got together with two men, both of whom were close to Castro. One was a scientist he knew named Jimenez and the other was Fidel's brother Raoul. Both him and his and Raoul immediately started trying to convince him to stay. But in this case, also Castro took the initiative in making the removal of the airplanes public.
