The overall picture for UK science at a time when there's lots of bad economic news around it is a good one. In 2020, the Chancellor who was then Rissy Zunak pledged to increase science funding from 15 billion pounds a year to 20 billion by 2024. Because of the black hole in the UK's finances, there's a real worry that the government would cut this increase in spending. The money should have been spent on association with Horizon Europe, which is in limbo and unallocated.
