The Power of Suffering in the Christian Experience

In the context of North American political debate, there are less lofty goals in sight. The claim that modern Christians suffer or are persecuted by the unseen forces of secularism leverages the idea of the Christian sufferer to score political points. It is certainly not the case that every Christian, ancient or modern, subscribed to this view of suffering either individual or corporate.
