The Role of Private Parties in Legitimacy
Facebook is acting like a government, but they're not regulated. I think this is another one of those opportunities where we need to think about the ways in which we've been willing to regulate in the past. There have been historically rent control laws and building standards. And now we have a mezzo government, all of these mezzo governments like Google and Facebook. But my concern is really the infrastructure and what these historical allegories can offer us. They're kind of a dead end. They're like the railway just before the railway collapsed.
