The Dam and the Reservoir Provide Water for Crimea

In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea and at that point they needed the water that came from the Napa River and the Kekovka Reservoir. The North Crimean Canal is responsible for a vast majority of the irrigation systems in the area. After the annexation, Ukraine began requiring payments from Russia for the delivery of water which Russia did not go along with. Due to their refusal to pay, Ukraine created another dam that would block the flow of water to the North Crimean channel. In the present invasion, Russian troops seized the area and they blew up that dam, reopening the canal for the deliveryof water.
