Lita Hollingworth was a pioneering psychologist in the early part of the 20th century. She said that women were being compelled to have more children using the same tools for social control that compel soldiers to go to war. For example, pregnancy was incredibly dangerous then. Maternal mortality rate was something like 60 times higher than what it would be at the end of the century.
