The History of the 362nd Fighter Group
The 362nd Fighter Group was activated in March 1943. The decision was made that the 9th air force was going to be a primarily tactical unit supporting ground troops doing interdiction. A lot of their early missions were escort missions because that was the mission that was being flown at the time.
