The Concept of Mechanical Means
In a waterfall, the higher the fall, the more energy is carried with the water. We can have a c soaring transformation of energy being added by someone doing work on it. And in theory, this thing could be done in a friction free way so you could move these weights mechanically around. As kiara says, the mechanism itself, the system of pulles and weights, remains unchanged - what makes it behave like a catalist.
