The Blackwell's Island Penitentiary

In 18 28, from the porch of the black house, an agreement was made to sell the entire island to the city of new york for a little over 32 thousand dollars. To day, it would become known as the city of asylums. The penitentiary was completed three years later, and its architecture set the tone for the island's mediaeval style. Original plans had even included a moat. Its original 200 and forty cells were almost immediately filled, and hundreds more would be acted over the years. In fact, the island lent itself to building expansion thanks to its rich resources of building stone.
