The Importance of Spelling in Thomas Hardy

Louise: One of the most famous moments in Hardy hinges, maybe, on this question of literacy and hinges on a misspelling. So many a spelt me double n why in some editions, in the other editions, it doesn't have the double n. And you've got that transformation where you've got the double n which makes the word harder to read itself. You've also got the fact that all the time is using a past participle that done because we are too many. Louise: We should never ignore a spelling mistake and Hardy because he knows what he's doing. It's really exciting to see that very modern Hardy.
