Assyria retained its position as a key node on those east-west trade routes. By 1114 BC, when Tiglath Pilisur I took the throne of Assyria, it had become the dominant power in the region. But even at the seeming high point, all was not well. The Iron Man tribes in the west raided Assyrian territory and the Assyrians were unable to exercise control to the south in Babylonia.
