Is There a Common Thread in Machine Learning?

There seems to be a commonality of people really caring deeply about traditions or folk. When I was in this band Los McQuanos, we were actually sampling a lot of music. So so I guess now that you make the parallel with machine learning, as this is like a data driven technology,. It kind of makes sense that people who are thinking about sound where it's coming from socially, but also historically.
