Trump's Impeachment Trial Is Complicated and Hard to Game Out
I think it was obvious he should have been convicted after the first impeachment, but I also thought it was obvious that both impeachment trials should have been done like real trials. We got the whole pattern backwards where the January 6 committee was basically doing the investigation after the impeachment had already been concluded. People are just too terrified to vote to convict and remove. That means there is really no check on lawlessness in the executive branch in any real kind of way.
