Since i am an intellectual, i feel bound to defend the role of intellectuals in public life. The regan revolution was underpinned by a revolution in economics that was led by people like milton freedman and garry becker. One thing that is kind of notable about the current american rigt is that they don't have a real intellectual base right now. And it does mean that there's going to be a longer term weakness in this movement because it really isn't based on a kind of coherent set of ideas. Is any one optimistic?
