The Root Causes of Extremism
I was there from 2004 to 2006. So this is pre-social media or at least any form of social media that we know today. And so this is in a world where the communities that I was really working with were really the most susceptible to extremist messaging. Most people, if you make it as simplistic as possible, just want to be heard. There's all sorts of different characteristics that often play into how somebody can exploit those emotions or vulnerabilities in different ways.
