The Universe Is Expanding at an Accelerating Rate

In 1998 astronomers looked at the brightness of these particular stars, they found they were too dim. The only possible explanation that we can think of is that space is expanding at an increasing rate. There is this dark energy in the universe driving that expansion but we don't know where it's coming from or what its purpose is.
