
Surge in GP vacancies, a plan for GP retention and how summer demand matched a pre-pandemic winter

BMA says general practice is now managing levels of demand that would usually have been seen in a pre-pandemic winter. 85% of appointments were delivered within two weeks in August this year compared with just over 82% in August 2019. Another factor is the risk of a so-called twin-demik of flu and COVID-19 this winter. The UK Health Security Agency has pointed to signs that cases are beginning to rise already.
