I loved the way it opened with a party and that's where that idea came from. He was trying to open a window onto the world of the Russian aristocracy, a particular moment in time. That idea really resonated with me because I was trying to depict the Black British middle class at a certain moment in time - which was around 2008, 2009. And we have Damien and Stephanie, don't we, who have three children and then and are married and Michael and Melissa who are not yet married but have two children, one who is quite recent in child.
