Do Dairy Products Acidify Osteoporosis?
The acid ash hypothesis of osteoporosis is based on the idea that when we consume foods that are high in phosphate they leave an acid ash after digestion. The body supposedly compensates for this to restore normal blood pH by stealing alkaline minerals like calcium from the bones which then decreases bone density. A 2011 study specifically addresses the dairy acid balance osteoporotic connection and finds no scientific evidence to support it.
