Working Memory in the Prefrontal Cortex
In this paper, they're trying to understand the neural basis of working memory. And there has been a lot of work done on how working memory is stored and kind of maintained in the brain. The way that the PFC encodes working memory is by changes in firing patterns in the pyramidal neurons or the projection neurons of the deeper layers of the cortex. Changes in firing patterns tend to correlate with the length of the delay.
