The Problem With Vacuum Decay
The idea of vacuum decay depends on the assumption that the standard model of particle physics is the whole picture. And we know it can't be. We know there's got to be something that'll replace or modify the standard model in a way such as to save us from vacuum decay. There are several ideas that have been around for a while that involve some kind of collapse and bounce. The acopyrotic model involves two parallel universes slamming into each other, coming apart and bouncing back and forth like hand-clapping.
