Chromemco would order bulk batches of S-4006 chips, delid them, and then glue a little quartz window on top of the IC to protect it. Walker recalls that the company was getting these chips for about $4 a piece. The instructions for the kit called the Ram chip, an image sensor, without mentioning its actual origins.
