I entered politics in one of the worst landslide losses Democrats ever experienced with George McGovern, where you only won one state. And yet in 1972, a young man named Joe Biden was elected in Delaware. Going down the ballot, there should have been a landslide with Nixon. There wasn't really. It was an historic landslide. I think that the Democratic Party has gotten away from allowing House and Senate candidates to really be on their own. The DCCC back in the 80s and 90s really was a powerful influence in terms of helping campaigns,. Now these sort of dictate campaigns, you know, the House of Representatives.
