Nell Gwynne: The Queen of the Mistresses
We're fond of saying that Nell Gwynne is Charles II's favourite mistress. We think that she was at or near the top, but he favoured many mistresses. She never became Queen of the Mistresses and remained close to him until his death in 1685. But true to her popular reputation for generosity, Nell left lots of money in her will to charity.
