There was wide intra and intercenter differences among the 22 centers reporting to the CHNC in duration of antibiotics for medical and for surgical neck. So variability across centers makes sense, but even within the center, so even within a center, there was often variability. The longer you needed antibiotic, the longer it took you to get back to full feeds. Longer courses of antibiotics are associated with prolonged intestinal recovery and length of hospitalization. Survival to discharge and the incidence of post neck stricture did not differ significantly among the three surgical antibiotic duration categories for surgical Neck. For medical neck, infants in the lengthier antibiotic categories to prolonger, to reach full feeds and had a longer length of stay
