Most modern historians accept that Pythagoras was indeed born on the island of Samos. In this era, Samos was a bustling and prosperous island at the crossroads of Greek, Egyptian, Phoenician, Hebrew, and Neo-Babylonian culture. The pioneering Greek astronomer known as Thales has been called the quote, first to introduce the study of nature to the Greeks,. He's credited with accurately recording a solar eclipse in 585 BC. Some sources tell us that as a young child, Pythagoras became the student of Thales.
