What Does HIPAA Really Do?
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene cited HIPAA as a reason for why she didn't have to answer a journalist's question about her vaccination status. David Frum: The law passed in 1996 meant to make it easier for doctors and insurance companies to share health data while still protecting patient privacy. He says rather than encouraging sharing, it really just jacked up transaction costs.Frum: Every year, there are Americans with heart problems that will drop dead simply because HIPAA made it too hard to share heartbeat information.
