What Is a Significant Plural Fusion?
A small effusion is an opacity that takes up less than a quarter of the hemithorax. When you get to greater than 25% or more, it's time to think about treatment. With kids with a moderate effusion if they're not in distress some would advocate for just treating them with antibiotics. And so once you see a kid with an ampaima you start to think about coverage for these more virulent organisms such as Staph aureus and strep piaogenes.
