The land was already pristine, so there was no need to bulldoze Paris first. A belt of suburbs grew up with a population of almost a million. Yet, twenty years after its construction, the city's capacity of 500,000 residents was only half full. And it wasn't the location. People wanted to live in the vicinity of brazilium - they just didn't want to living in the parts that Niemeyers had built.
