Special 1: HMS Warspite
History of the Second World War

The War-Spite and the Grand Fleet
The only capital ships that had been part of the Grand Fleet during the war would survive long term. The British were not allowed to build a whole host of new capital ships. This meant that the Queen Elizabeth class would remain some of the most capable ships in the fleet until the 1930s, behind only the Hood, the Nelson and the Rodney. Because the Royal Navy could not build new ships, the war-spite would go through two major refits during the interwar period. These were critical to keeping the ship at a point where it could still be an effective ship in the new naval environments.
