But what we didn't know until we did this book was how that transition from actor to politician took place. In between being an actor and being governor of California, Ronald Reagan had another job as a propagandist for General Electric Corporation. Conway: The first person to put these ideas into large parts of the American consciousness is actually Jimmy Carter. And most people who are surprised to hear him talk about government deregulation say it's not just on the right wing but also among Republicans.
