The Emerging Field of Global Intellectual History

The topic for this year's Quentin Skinner Lecture and Symposium was recovering liberties in 20th century Africa. I imagine this was meant to suggest to the late Professor Christopher Bailey's book on Indian political thought published in 2011 recovered liberties, Indian thought in the age of liberalism and empire. How do you situate your work and the broader project of African intellectual history in relation to the emerging sphere of global intellectual history? "For me what is so important is to decenter the European and Western historical experience"
