New York Lends Itself to the Feeling of Social Solitude

I think that almost there's a sort of British lack of confidence sometimes in occupying a space alone. Husbling pubs are not places made for aloneness. Their public nature is inscribed into their title. And I suspect even especially for women being alone in a pub is not a wholly comfortable feeling. But yes, New York lends itself to that special feeling of social solitude which perhaps no other city does as much. It's certainly no other city has inspired so much good art about that emotion of social solitude whether it's in Hopper's paintings or Franco Harris poemsAs New York has done.
